Blue Mountains and the Hipstamatic iPhone app

Another series using the Hipstamatic iPhone app. The Blue Mountains in New South Wales. The area was so beautiful I thinking of going back for a few days with plenty of time for photography.

Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mountains_(Australia)

Film series is coming soon! I'm currently researching public darkrooms in Sydney and hope to have some black & white films developed by the end of August and colour films by the end of September.

East Coast Australia

You probably know.....I have left my life in Bristol, England for some sun, sea and....photography in beautiful Australia.

Photography out here has been amazing and I have so much to explore. At current guestimations I have shot 15 slide, 20 colour and 12 B&W films ready to be developed. It's going to be around 2 months until I find a place to live, have chemicals and get my developing tanks and kit shipped over from the UK.

So while you wait for the real photos here are a few photos of my east coast travels taken on the awesome Hipstamatic iPhone application.

FlickLgraphique – Photography Exhibition

So it's that time again, another photography exhibition. This one is by 50 photographers who are part of the Bristol Flickr group. I helped curate the show and I can tell you now its looking awesome! I've even managed to get a couple of my own photos accepted.

If you want to check out some amazing diverse photography head over to The Photo Gallery, Photographique, 31 Baldwin Street, Bristol, BS1 1RG from Friday 16th April - Wednesday 21st April for some really treats! Rumour has it there might even be cake.

-------------

Press release follows......

We are pleased to announce a curated exhibition of some of the best images from members of Bristol's online photography community, the Bristol Flickr group.

flickLgraphique is the result of a partnership between the Bristol Flickr group and Photographique, Bristol's premier photography shop in the heart of the city. The exhibition is a showcase of some of the best photography produced by 50 members of the Bristol Flickr group. There's something for everyone: from street to studio, mystical trees, quirky angles and striking portraits, urban action night and day, with kites, bikes, trains and tiny details in between. What unites all of these pictures is that the people who took them call Bristol their home.

Flickl is the name given to exhibitions organised by Bristol-based users of Flickr, the online photo sharing community, because Bristolians know that all words sound better with an L on the end!

flickLgraphique is the third event to be organised the Bristol Flickr group. It follows last year's successful exhibition, Flickl II: An Eye for Colour, held at the Theory Café in Millennium Square, and the inaugural flickL exhibition held at the CREATE Centre in 2006. The Bristol Flickr group currently has more than 2,000 members who meet on and offline to share experiences, photographic and otherwise; membership is open to all irrespective of background or experience. flickLgraphique is our way of showcasing the amazing diversity of the group.

Visit flickLgraphique, 16-21 April 2010, at The Photo Gallery, Photographique, 31 Baldwin Street, Bristol, BS1 1RG.

Print Sale

As I'm sure most of you know I'm off to Australia at the end of May. To help reach the funds needed to allow me entry to the country on my 1 year Visa, I'm selling many of my photography prints left over from exhibitions.

Below is a link to a PDF document which is a catalogue of the images with titles, sizes, prices etc. It's mostly Bristol landmarks, urban architecture and skyscapes.

If you would like to buy any of them please drop me a message. I am donating 10% of any sales to charity split between NSPCC and The Prostate Cancer charity.

Please forward this on to any family or friends who you think might be interested.

An introduction to… Rodinal B&W film developer

Something I wrote for the first issue of the Photographique magazine...

You can view the PDF version with example images here: An introduction to Rodinal.

Patented by Dr. Momme Andresen in 1891, Rodinal was the first product produced by Agfa and the oldest continuously-produced developer formula in the world. Formally manufactured by Agfa, Rodinal was sold to Connect Chemicals (Ratingen, Germany.) in 2008.

It’s a one shot liquid developer usually used in high dilutions of 1+25, 1+50, 1+100, 1+200.
My faroite dilution/film combination being 1+100 using stand development (no agitation) for 50 minutes.

It has a very long storage life, Mine’s over 2 year’s old and producing great negatives.

Rodinal is ususaly suited to low film speeds based on the high acutance properties and the coarse grain this devloper produces. A solvent (such as sodium sulfite) can be aded to soften the granularity. However I find Fuji Neopand 1600 and Kodak Tri-X (rated at 16000 iso) looks beautiful.

Rodinal is a must try for anyone development black and white film and a great starting devloper for anyone thinking of developing their own film.

It’s readily avaliable to buy in the UK with an adverage price of £12.
